We (because both my wife and I took the IDC/MSDT/EFR) have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Gary as a course director.
We felt that Gary was professional at all times and he took the time to ensure that we were not only well prepared for the IE but also for teaching as PADI Instructor. Gary is passionate about his candidates. He takes a personal interest in each of them. His IDC's are longer than most as he thoroughly goes over every skill presentations. You may think that you know how demonstrate how to put a scuba unit together but wait until Gary shows you how it is done ... over and over again !
He will exploit any weakness that you may have by giving you assignments that deal with that particular weakness. As an example, if for any reason you have difficulties with physics as it relates to calculating air volumes to lift a specific object from the bottom of the sea; he may choose to assign you a prescriptive presentation on that same topic. That way he knows that you will not have any difficulties on that topic at the IE. That also means that you may be putting extra hours on preparing your presentation.
The Instructor that we had for our DM, qualified Gary as being very thorough, we feel that was an understatement. Rest assured that if you do it the way Gary showed you, you will (as we did) ace the IE and be well prepared for what awaits you as an instructor.
I must caution you that as good as Gary is, he cannot do the IE for you. The candidate must bring with him/her an excellent attitude, good study habits, ethics, and an openness to being helped (constructive coaching ). Easier said than done.
Gary will be honest with you, in that, if he feels that you are not ready for the IE, he will say so. Remember that with Gary you will not be aiming for a pass you will be aiming for five's.

I had the opportunity to travel down to Roatan and take the IDC with Gary at the Resort . He structured the course in a way to keep it fun, while also being challenging, constantly pushing for improvement, not simply being adequate. Gary created a fun and humor filled atmosphere while maintaining professionalism that few instructors can rightly claim success with. The lessons that I learned provide the framework for my own teaching style as I continue to gain new students.
The location of the course at Go Pro Roatan IDC is second to none. No one could ask for more with a pool on site in which to practice confined water exercises, and a healthy coral reef a short walk away in which to continue with open water skills. The room and board at the resort were comfortable, and suited me very well. I would highly recommend taking any course with Gary and Go Pro Roatan IDC to anyone.

When I arrived for my IDC, I was completely unprepared. As the course progressed, I became increasingly aware of how much I needed to learn. There were several times that I considered not completing the course. Gary would have none of that. He had faith in us and was willing to put 13 hours in every day to get us prepared for the IE! Had my Course Director been ANYONE other than Gary Miller, there would be no question that I would not have been able to complete the course and pass the IE with flying colors! When I'm teaching students, I can still hear Gary's voice in my ear.
I recommend GO PRO ROATAN to anyone who is considering taking the next step and becoming an instructor. There is no better Course Director than Gary Miller!

I was in Gary's first IDC. If you want to learn something, if you want a challenge, and if you want to pass your IE, how could you possibly choose to take your IDC from any other instructor? Gary worked long hours to make sure we were prepared for the IE. Not only that, but I scored the highest in the standards portion of the exam. If you want to be successful, there is no other choice...
